Cosmic Pirates
Introduced by award-winning poet Raymond Antrobus, First Light welcomes the Gainsborough Girls Group, who are a talented collective of young people who attend Gainsborough Community Library in Ipswich, Suffolk.
In 2023, the Gainsborough Girls Group represented Suffolk and took part in a national poetry competition in Manchester called the Wordcup, where they developed and performed two pieces of stunning poetry titled ‘Home’ and ‘Colours’, supported by artists Yome Sode, El-Emcee and Kirsty Tallent.
‘Home’ is about finding belonging and a place that feels like your own.
‘Colours’ is about individuality and everyone having their own unique perspective.
The girls will move First Light Festival audiences with a spoken word performance of both poetry pieces on Sunday morning.
