Jay Mitra (they/he) is a British Indian punk poet, multi slam champion and non-fiction writer. Born in India but raised in East Yorkshire, they have spent their life melding two cultures into one five-foot body. Described by Lemn Sissay as ‘comedic polemic’ in an ‘inimitable style’, their poetry explores the human condition with wit, grit, and sensitivity.

Jay was selected by Apples and Snakes as one of 40 Future Voices in Poetry and they were a winner of the Creative Future Writers’ Award in 2023. They have been featured on BBC Radio 6 and have performed in BBC’s Contains Strong Language, Leeds Literature Fest, Manchester Pride, and Manchester Punk Festival.
