“A priori (or It’s Not About The Thing. It’s About All Of It And Doing Things)” and First Flight
“A priori (or It’s Not About The Thing. It’s About All Of It And Doing Things)” is an open and continuous series of performances that started in 2014, concerned, in the absence of not knowing what to do next, with actually locating and harnessing ‘the idea’ through existential pursuits and exchanges with different materials and consequential forms. Presently, this involves wrestling huge sheets of paper. Some get in the way. Some are the way.
Join us on Lowestoft’s South Beach to watch acclaimed sculptor, performance and video artist Alexander Costello, performing his latest iteration of “Apriori (or It’s Not About The Thing. It’s About All Of It And Doing Things)” as he wrestles with the First Flight project of responding to the concept of a bird box. Known for creating public performances that are both absurd and hilarious (and, as such, very serious), Costello becomes ‘the artist’, his alter-ego distinguished by an all-white suit, and delivers a performance that challenges the everyday absurdity of perceived normality.
