First Word

Across the Weekend
First Word Theatre Tent

Curated by award-winning poet Luke Wright, First Light’s inaugural First Word programme brings the best in spoken word, theatre, comedy, and story-telling to Suffolk’s sunrise coast.

We’re delighted to have comedian and activist Mark Thomas as our ticketed Saturday night headliner. Mark will be showcasing some brand new material, rants and gags on Johnson, capitalism and assorted villains from Putin to P&O.

Our spoken word line-up is second-to-none, featuring amongst others Salena Godden, Rob Auton, Radio 4’s Elvis McGonagall, chart-topping wordsmith Mike Garry, Kate Fox, and Luke Wright’s show of Georgian ballads, The Ballad Seller.

In a world exclusive Polly Wright & Jason Wick bring their new collaboration – The Feathered Thorns. Playing us ethereal ballads in the dead of the night, The Feathered Thorns promise a voyeuristic drive down the lanes on moonless nights and the ghosts of summers past rattling around empty theatres.

We’re also delighted to be showcasing brand new work for Britain’s premier new writing theatre company High Tide Theatre, a late-night stand-up comedy club featuring Joe Wells and Marcel Lucont, and four story-telling shows from the Inn Crowd, including James McDermott and Suki Silvertongue.

All free and unticketed, with the exception of Mark Thomas (21:00 Saturday).
