Saturday 26th June 2021 – 12:00pm – South Beach, Lowestoft
Make your way to the South Beach at midday to watch Group A take to the sands with their latest debut – composed by Emily Levy, this new project invites you, the audience, to take part and find your own voice! Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the sea, it will use structures of shanties sung long ago to present the hopes and dreams of the Group A singers after a year of upheaval, dislocation and change. Singers, instrumentalists and audience will create music that connects us to songs of the past and each other and that looks outwards to whatever lies ahead.
Group A is a free vocal group for 8-18s in Lowestoft and Ipswich, providing opportunities for young people to work with a variety of professional musicians throughout the year to develop creative pieces and performances in a range of settings.
Emily Levy is a British singer and composer with a particular interest in voice, sound design and narrative work. Recent projects include commissions for BBC Radio 3 & 4, a song cycle for baritone Roderick Williams, composer-in-residence with Streetwise Opera, and choral works for Voice Vocal Trio, Marian Consort & Oxford Youth Choirs.
