Wheel

Wheel, an 18ft installation designed by artist John Christie working with Lowestoft based metal fabricator Richard Paine of My Metal Fabrications, evokes a wheel of time, with phrases from a newly commissioned poem of the same name, by award winning poet and author George Szirtes incorporated within it.

Wheel was installed on the beach at Lowestoft as the sun was setting on a misty December day with fire and pyrotechnics designed around it by Chris Donovan of Suffolk based pyrotechnics company Shell Shock. Accompanied by singing from Lowestoft’s famed The Rogue Shanty Buoys, George watched Wheel  light up the winter sky and sent out a message of hope: ‘with the sea’s own voice, new light, new fire is burning’. We can’t wait to see Wheel again on the beach with flags a flying, when we can herald the mid-summer solstice together.
