Chad Mason

15:30

16:00

Sitting neatly between contemporary folk and psychedelia, 2025 Milkmaid Folk Songwriting Competition winner Chad Mason strips it back live – guitar, voice and harmonica plus his disarmingly witty patter – as featured on Justin Hawkins Rides Again live onstage podcast.

About

Hailing from Oxfordshire, Chad’s songwriting birth coincided with the move to study in Norwich. Like that city, he sits away from the main road, but has found a style that engages the listener on record, while creating an affable rapport with any live audience he meets.

Building a crowd playing and hosting acoustic music (including his own night Back In the Box – Live!) he has cleared a path to perform original songs and host other artists from around the UK and beyond.

He engages the room not only musically but with disarmingly witty patter too – highlights include Cambridge Folk Club, Camden Roundhouse, the Troubadour and Latitude, Folk in a Field (which he also comperes) and End of the Road festivals.

Beyond the UK, he played in Austin, Texas during South by Southwest 2013 and has made seven appearances on the New York open-mic scene.

The Long Grass was featured in the Justin Hawkins Rides Again live podcast show in November 2024, with Chad joining Justin onstage to discuss the song.

Chad won the 2025 Milkmaid Songwriting Competition with his song Jurnet’s Tale – Chad enjoys every opportunity to bring this, alongside his other songs and stories to new audiences.
