Luke Wright: Some New Stuff
Luke Wright brings a one-off work-in-progress show to First Light Festival, tackling masculinity and the way politics seeps into everyday life. Expect sharp new poems, big laughs, bold ideas, and the thrill of watching fresh material being built live on stage.
About
Luke Wright has spent over 25 years hauling poetry out of dusty corners and into theatres, festivals, pubs, and anywhere that’ll have him. A restless live performer with a sharp tongue and a big heart, he’s created eighteen solo shows and published five collections, most recently Later Life Letter. His work is funny, furious, and unafraid to poke at the soft bits of modern Britain.
For First Light Festival, Luke presents a one-off, work-in-progress performance built around masculinity and the strange ways politics infiltrates our personal lives. How do the culture wars end up at the kitchen table? What does it mean to be a “good man” in an age of outrage? And who gets to decide?
Expect new poems, bold ideas, and the occasional glorious wobble as material is tested live. There’ll be big laughs, sharp observations, and moments that hit a little closer to home than you might expect. This is poetry with its sleeves rolled up — immediate, honest, and made for the room you’re in.
