The Long Wait – Gathering

Across the weekend

Alongside Laurence Edwards’s bronze sculpture ‘The Long Wait’ on Lowestoft beach, visitors are invited to take part in creating a second, evolving artwork ‘The Long Wait – Gathering’

About

From the First Light Festival launch on 20 June and throughout the summer, you are invited to gather pebbles and drop them into a specially created sculpture by Laurence. Slowly, collectively, the figure will fill, transformed by the many hands that contribute to it.

As the Old Post Office prepares to reopen as Messums East, The Long Wait – Gathering marks the beginning of a new chapter reflecting the ethos of Messums East: A place to gather and create.

Every contribution matters. By sharing your photograph or film, you help create a living record of this collective artwork and the community behind it.

How to Take Part:

• Find a pebble on the beach

• Add it to the sculpture

• Photograph yourselves dropping your pebbles or with the growing sculpture!

If you would like to share a photograph or film of yourselves taking part please upload HERE, share and tag us on Instagram.

At the end of the summer, the sculpture will be removed from the beach but it’s making will be documented through selected images shown online at www.messumscreative.com and in a project archive to be displayed at Messums East once open where we would love for you to come and see them.

Participants will be invited to The ‘Gathering’ closing celebration on the beach and invitation to see the exhibition when we open.
