In this conversation astronomer Mark Thompson and Andrew Sutkowski from Norwich Astronomical Society will reveal how our moon was formed, details about its orbit, affects of gravity, phases, travel to the moon and briefly discuss lunar folklore.

About

Mark Thompson is a Norfolk-based astronomer, broadcaster and author best known for presenting on the BBC’s Stargazing Live and appearing regularly on programmes including The One Show and Good Morning Britain. Passionate about making science and space accessible to wider audiences, Thompson is also an award-winning speaker and writer whose work combines astronomy, education and live entertainment for audiences of all ages.

Andrew Sutkowski is an amateur astronomer and Chairman of the Norwich Astronomical Society, of which he has been a member for over 12 years. He has broad astronomical interests covering astro-photography, astro-spectroscopy, astrometry and radio astronomy.

Having previously experienced presenting in the First Light Festival ‘Ideas arena’, this year the talk about the Moon will be a combined presentation and performance where points being discussed will be demonstrated visually as well as on presented screen. 

The audience will be left in no doubt about how the Moon came into existence, the Earth-Moon interactions, how to get to the Moon and the meaning of the term ‘lunatic, amongst others
